Just Google It

Lately, Google has really started to live up to their powerhouse reputation. It seems like every other day we are being introduced to a new feature, the latest being Google Music. Google is making it apparent that they are ready and willing to take on the biggest names in technology. Here are some of their newest, most interesting additions to the empire.

Google Plus Pages

Google Plus isn’t all that new anymore. We’ve recognized it as Google’s attempt to break into social media. Google Plus Pages are similar to Facebook Pages - business profiles on Google Plus. So what’s the big deal? Everyone knows what Google is. The word itself is synonymous with “search” and “find.” Businesses want their name tied with Google in any way possible (including Google Maps, Buttons, Ads, etc.). According to an article posted by Chris Klum of Web Pro News (http://www.webpronews.com), as of now, already 61% of the top 100 companies in the world have created a Google Plus Page. This growth is only the beginning. Knowing Google, the capabilities and advantages of Google Plus Pages will grow, as will the number of companies participating.

Google Music

So who can guess what Google Music could be? It’s not a Google jingle. Google Music has partnered with major labels like EMI, Sony, Universal, and many independents, and are currently in talks with others. Using Google Music, you can buy songs, store up to 20,000 songs and access the music on your computer or mobile devices - no syncing necessary. Sound familiar? Additionally, Google Music allows you to send a song you’ve purchased to a friend, enabling them to hear one of your favorite songs, on the spot, for free. Google Music will also give Android users new music selections in the Android Market. As with most Google expansions, Google Music has a lot of room for growth and improvement. But can it take on ITunes?

Google Wallet

Google Wallet may be an addition that sits in the shadows a bit longer than Google Plus or Google Music, but the convenience, safety, and protection offered by this service makes it valuable. Google Wallet allows you to carry your credit cards digitally on your phone, allowing you to make purchases with it, just as you would with your regular plastic cards. It is only in the beginning stages, so it only works with Citi Mastercard right now, but Google PrePaid cards are also available and can be funded with whatever card you carry. Google Wallet boasts special offers, loyalty rewards and perks for users. It can be locked with a PIN to protect your information in the event of a lost or stolen phone. To make our lives even more streamlined with the Google culture, they are also working on capabilities with boarding passes, tickets, transit cards and more. Now only if they could find a way to add Chapstick to my phone…
